Mega Man X8 - First Impressions
Just bought this game and so far I likes it! I'm playing it in normal mode but I'm totally going to replay it on hard mode. I was worried about the 3D graphics because of the boring Mega Man Legends series but this game is easy to get into. It’s a lot of fun. But I'm still not jazzed about the 3D graphics and think the 2D graphics would have looked better.
Well no, in the beginning of the PlayStation era 2D Mega Man X games looked great. But by the end Mega Man X games weren’t looking so hot. Why were Mega Man X6’s visuals so repetitive? Wow, one stock enemy per stage and a few of those upgraded Mets if you're lucky. Thanks. Yeah, now that I think about it the last few games looked shitty. But X1 through X5 progressed very well. Storywise I enjoyed X4 the most. X1 and X2 were also pretty excellent story wise. I was really touched the first time I found a Dr. Light Capsule in X1. It’s such an iconic moment.
Okay, X8 looks great when it comes to backgrounds and stuff but the look of the regular cast in 3D kinda sucks. They even look crap in the FMV sequences. Or maybe it’s just me who thinks so..
The GAMEPLAY is old school 2D except for a few chase sequences. They’re okay but they really didn’t need to be there. But the classic 2D stuff is a lot of fun. It’s Mega Man the way you remember. I heard X7 was trash but I never payed it. I’m still looking for that one in bargain bins.
Like I said I haven’t beat the game yet but I’ve played to the point where I feel like I’d recommend this game. I definitely recommend it to Mega Man X fans.
